The Canadian Life and Health Insurance OmbudService (CLHIO) is an independent service that assists consumers with concerns and complaints about health insurance products and services. Our objective is to provide fair and prompt resolution of problems. We belong to the Financial Services OmbudsNetwork (FSON), a national dispute-resolution system. We are sponsored by life and health insurance companies that do business in Canada. The CLHIO is committed to providing service that is: knowledgeable, Fair and impartial, Confidential, Independent and objective, Accessible, Timely, Courteous, Clear, Accurate, Consistent. The CLHIO is an independent service that is overseen by a Board of Directors, the majority of whom have no ties to the life and health insurance industry. Services include: information about industry practices, life and health insurance companies, and their products, assisting family members in locating lost policies of a recently deceased relative, assists consumers with concerns and complaints about life and health insurance products and services answering questions on life insurance, extended health insurance, dental insurance, travel insurance, disability insurance, insurance for visitors to Canada, RRSPs, RRIFs, LIFs and other retirement products, segregated funds, critical illness, long term care insurance, Industry Practices, claims. marketing, sales, underwriting, coordination of benefits, privacy, beneficiaries, premiums, and rescission.
